Good Omens season 3 will be only one episode long, Prime Video has confirmed, following creator Neil Gaiman no longer being involved in the show. Good Omens season 2 ended with Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and Crowley (David Tennant) going their separate ways, with the latter confessing his love for the former with a kiss. Season 3 was confirmed in December 2023, which will see the angel forced to assist with the Second Coming, potentially working with his demon partner to try preventing the apocalypse once again.

Now, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Good Omens season 3 will consist of only one, 90-minute episode that will close out the series. The final installment of the fantasy series will begin filming in Scotland early next year, with some writing contributions from Gaiman. However, the creator will not be directly involved, following five women accusing him of sexual assault earlier this year. While the author and series creator has denied the allegations levied against him, he is still stepping away as showrunner and producer of the series.

When Gaiman was involved in the series, he confirmed Good Omens season 3 would be based on an unwritten sequel he'd planned out with Terry Pratchett, the deceased co-author of the original 1990 novel. Given his writing credits will still be attached to the forthcoming finale, it seems these ideas will be maintained even after he's stepped away from the show. However, with only a single, feature-length episode to end the entire show, these ideas will be radically condensed when compared with season 1 and 2's six-episode arcs.

Good Omens is preparing for its final season, and a tease from Michael Sheen is giving me hope for a happy ending, but it's also worrying.

Regardless, Sheen and Tennant will be reprising their roles as Aziraphale and Crowley, bringing a definitive end to their storyline. Despite the many other characters who will no doubt be involved in the show, the single episode will force the pair to be the core focus, ensuring their ties to the new apocalypse and budding romance are resolved by the end. However, with only a single episode to have so many events transpire, it's unclear if the finale will be able to offer a satisfying conclusion for Good Omens' characters with so little time to work with.
Our Take On Good Omens Season 3 Having One Episode
The Feature-Length Finale Will Need To Be Concise
While it's good to know the series will still be getting a definitive ending without Gaiman's involvement, the final episode will need to be concise in order to provide a satisfying conclusion. Given the large plans the Second Coming no doubt involves, it seems like Good Omens will have a major challenge on its hands trying to satisfyingly end the show in just 90 minutes. However, if the episode is treated more as a feature-length film, with plenty of condensed narratives and focus on the two leads, it might still be able to pull off a proper ending.
